One scope note, because this search does not make it obvious: this page is about business-process automation. The office, the enquiries, the paperwork. Industrial process automation, the plant floor and its controllers, is a different trade sold under the same words, and a business searching for one will be shown the other.

Does your business actually need AI automation?
A task is worth automating when it is repeated often enough to measure, stable enough to describe, and currently costing somebody hours they could spend on something else. A task that fails any one of those three is not ready, and every page competing on this search skips the question entirely.
The scepticism is real and local. On a public Pune forum, in a thread asking whether businesses here actually need this or whether it is simply hyped abroad, the most-supported reply, according to the thread’s own vote count, is a business owner saying AI is essential as a fashion and useless in practice. That is worth answering rather than talking past, and the answer is not a defence of the technology. It is that the question is task-shaped rather than technology-shaped. Nobody needs AI automation. A business might need its enquiries to stop sitting unanswered overnight.

When is automation the wrong answer?
Automation is the wrong answer when the process is not stable, when the volume is too low to repay the build, and when the automation only works with somebody watching it. 0 of the 5 pages ranking for this search carry a section like this.
An unstable process. Automating a workflow that changes every month buys a maintenance bill rather than a saving. The process settles first; the automation follows. This is the commonest reason a build disappoints, and it is visible before anything is written.
Too little volume. A task done twice a week for 10 minutes will not repay a build, however satisfying it would be to remove. The arithmetic is worth doing honestly and out loud. Hours the task costs today, against the build plus a year of running it.
An automation that needs a minder. The clearest version of this is visible in any Indian fast-food outlet with self-ordering screens: staff are stationed beside the machines to help customers use them. The order is automated and the labour has not gone anywhere. It has moved. Before signing anything, that is the test to apply: if somebody has to stand next to it, the work has been relocated rather than removed.

What happens when it gets something wrong?
A language model can produce a confident answer that is wrong, so anything it writes to a customer either passes a review step or is restricted to answers drawn from your own documented material. Across 5 pages selling AI on this search, the word hallucination does not appear once.
Three design decisions follow from that, and they are decided before anything is built rather than after something goes out. No agency can promise a number of hours saved before it has watched how the task is actually done, because the saving depends on the process rather than on the software. The same task, at two businesses, with different volumes and different starting points, does not produce the same number.
